Title Picture:

I know our top picture is incredibly out of date - but I love it because it captures perfectly my life at one point. So it will stay.

Feeding the 5000

Feeding the 5000 is one of our annual traditions.  This year was the hardest year.  It was almost impossible to align everyone's schedule.  They are, also, all so busy that they weren't thrilled to spend an hour or two doing this.  Maddie and Dane also hated being there and pouted the whole time.  But some of us had a good time, and I still think it is worth it.

This was my "happy crew".  We all worked hard and were pretty happy about it.

Brock was able to come for only an hour and did the shift mostly by himself.  He was willing though and offered to stay longer, but he had a lot going on.

And then I never got a picture of my last crew - Me, Dane, and Maddie.  Dane and Maddie were not happy and did not want to help.  So I did it and tried to not be too frustrated with them.

Noah turns 16

Noah turned 16 not long after school started.   He decided that he wanted to have some friends over to play games.  He had also just finished his Lord of the Rings castle and they were excited to see it.

Later we had a party with our family where we ate his usual, trifle.

I surprised him with an old fashioned leather bound journal.

And he got some merch, and was pretty excited.
Noah's emotions are always pretty visible on his face, and I love it.

Some things about Noah at 16:
  • Noah got his drivers license about 2 weeks after his birthday.  He wasn't so sure about wanting to drive when he first got his learners.  And while he still doesn't LOVE driving he does drive all the time and is a fantastic at it.
  • He is killing it at lights and piano and is even learning the organ.
  • He is taking hard classes, but isn't quite so sure how much work he wants to put into them.
  • He is so good with Dane and Eve.  He is able to be happy and playful with them and meets them where they are at.
  • Noah is dependable, capable, independent, and a delight.  He is one of my favorite people to talk to.

Maddie's Flag Football Season

Maddie decided to play flag football.  She was so excited and I was excited also.

Dane, Eve, and I went to her first game.  She was killing it.  She was such a great flag grabber.  It was unbelievable.

But then, as luck would have it, she grabbed a flag wrong and jammed/sprained/broke her thumb/wrist.  It was so sad.  Why the first game?

Brock's Senior Pictures

Brock and I went one evening to get his senior pictures taken.  Heavenly Father really helped me to do this.  I really wanted to get senior pictures taken, but I knew that it was unlikely that I would ever take the imitative to find a photographer, have Brock ready emotionally (willing to) and physically (hair cut, shaved, and outfits, find a location, and want to pay for it.  He miraculously put Misty Pankratz in my path (a mom of one of my preschool students 8 years ago) and quickly the conversation turned to her being willing to take Brock's senior pictures for so cheap.  And she kept texting me asking when to do it and had the idea of the place and she shared my vision.

Brock didn't share my vision.  He was feeling a little down with the start of his senior year.  He didn't make the soccer team, and had a few other disappointments and wasn't really in the mood to celebrate his senior year or the accomplishments of his high school experience.  I understood this pain, and gave him a few weeks.  But I knew he needed help seeing all that he does and did and HE was worth celebrating.  I asked him to trust me, and although he did not want to take any sports pictures, he was willing to trust me.  That is the nice thing about Brock.  He does trust me.

The pictures could not have gone better.  Misty knew exactly what Brock needed.  She made him feel like a million bucks.  Well, Misty didn't know, but Heavenly Father knew.  She was blown away by Brock's "model like" poses and looks.  It was wonderful.

And as the night went on he was willing to take sports photos and even the one I "envisioned".

Brock has done so much during High School and I wanted him to see and feel that.  He is so capable, resilient, and willing to try new and hard things.  He did all the things, all the while taking really hard classes despite his IEP, working at windcrest, and of course, being the oldest of 6 kids.

Here is what I posted on Facebook:
Senior pictures. Brock was such a trooper for his pictures. He wasn’t very excited to take them and has always been one of those kids annoyed with taking pictures. But it didn’t take long for him to warm up. He had such a fun time and was SO CUTE! He even happily changed outfits, which was one thing he said he did not want to do. She captured him perfectly.
If you click through the pictures (and you should) you will see all the extra curricular things he did through high school while also working and taking classes that really challenged him. He had some pretty big disappointments starting his senior year and he didn’t feel like he had much to celebrate. I had a vision for a picture showing him how talented he is and how varried and successful his high school expierence was/is. He wasn’t so sure but he trusted me and let me do “what ever I wanted” and when he got the pictures back and he saw the picture of him holding everything he smiled and said “you were right, it’s a good picture”. That’s all I needed to hear!
