Random

Here are a bunch of random pictures on my phone from March and April.

Mid March I put Eve on a schedule with the goal of getting her to bed by 7:00 pm with Dane and sleeping through the night.  It is mid May and it pretty much worked!  We followed it pretty well, and she did great. She has been my least scheduled baby but that is to expected with 6, plus with covid it wasn't really needed, it worked for us for her to be able to do what ever she wanted whenever she wanted... until it didn't. 

Dane is my little baker.  We bake together about once a week while the kids are at school.  

It is May 14 and we are still getting snow.  This picture is from April.... 26 inches!  We had snow 2 days ago.  It sucks.

We took a survey about what family vacation the kids wanted to take.  The cabin and stay-cation in Utah won.  We are doing the cabin. 

Madison took this one day.


This was an Easter devotional I did one night.  Everyone wrote 3 things they have in their life becasue of Jesus.  Then I put up pictures of people we know who have died and will be resurrected. 

We have been doing quite a lot of family fasts for people in our lives who need heavenly help.  Since most of them are not near us we send them a picture of us just before breaking our fast to let them know we love and support them.  

I was feeding Eve breakfast before school one day and looked across the table and saw my girls reading.  It seemed picture worthy.  They are adorable.

I wonder where they get it....

Grandma Comes

My mom came out for her usual spring visit.  She likes to come and watch the soccer games.  She came Thursday - Monday, so it was quick but we loved it.  We spent Saturday at Madison's soccer game (just me and her) and then on Saturday afternoon everyone but Jason and Eve took the trek up to Boulder to watch Brock's soccer game. 


Afterwards she took us to Applebee's for dinner and we all loved it!  We hadn't been to a restaurant since pre-covid, it was fun and Dane was adorable.  At dinner I had the kids go around and ask grandma questions about her life, we learned a lot and it was so fun.


While she was here she read about a million books to Dane and also "played trains".  Eve was scared of her and wouldn't look at her the first few days, but by Sunday she let my mom hold her!  She played card games with the older ones almost every night (scum mostly).  We had a blast and are always glad when she comes.

Facebook Posts

Here are my Facebook posts form the last 5 months.  I included comments this time, I don’t know if I always will or not.  I want a record of my posts because they are still a record.  I feel strongly that there are things that I should post on social media because I feel like Heavenly Father wants me too.  But I would rather have all my thoughts be on one place.  So for now I need to remember to post them here as well.  Until then… I will have to do these updates every so often.

I just went to go wash my face and go to bed and this is what I saw in the mirror. I almost laughed out loud at my disheveled state. You can't see great, but my mascara is running all under my eyes. Strangely my state didn't match my feelings - which is why I think I was so shocked about what was staring back at me in the mirror. Most days I look tired and done by the end, most days I don't have make-up on, hair done, or wearing anything but yoga pants, but today was a great day... and I still look like this. Ha
Today, Mother's Day, was a great day overall. Jason kills mother's day, I had a wonderful breakfast and dinner that I didn't make or clean up, he does most of the "hard parenting" for the day and I just get to read books and play games, I got an afternoon nap, an extra hour in the morning to read my scriptures, and sweet gifts from my children. But beyond all of that, I felt an extra deep appreciation for what it means to be a woman and a mother. I had a HARD day at church, one that sent me into the lobby in tears with my 2 littles. We are back to second hour with no nursery, Jason was teaching elder's quorum and my best friend, Krista, was teaching her first relief society lesson. I had been looking forward to it all week. We didn't last 2 minutes. I was mad and frustrated. All of the other parents were in the hall with their nursery age children and we just walked and walked and walked. It was almost all dads, because it was mother's day so the dads had the kids. I was feeling sorry for myself that I was out there with "the dads" and not in my lesson, that I had 2 babies with me, that there wasn't a nursery... I wasn't sure who I was mad at... I was just mad and kept holding back tears. Then I saw these little 18 month year olds who have never known anything but the pandemic, who have never been to nursery or story time or birthday parties, they have never sung together or done anything structured together. But they didn't care, they were just running and playing together. So I gathered them up, in the lobby of the church building, sat them in a circle and sang songs with them. We sang pop corn popping, do as I am doing, I am a child of God, head shoulders knees and toes, etc. Most of them looked at me like I was crazy, but after a few minutes they were loving it, and I was happy. I felt a sweet spirit come over me that THIS was the true gift of being a woman. This is what being a mother is on mother's day. Ministering to these precious children and using my talents to brighten their day and let their dad's go to Elders Quorum. Today I felt extra close to heaven... and yet I still look like this. I hope this is what qualifies me for such a wonderful place.

I know how to mother because I was mothered. We teach by example... you taught me by example. My mother has the heart of a servant. A comment on a facebook post said (regarding mothers) "we are not servants!" and while I understood her intent I couldn't disagree more. To be like Christ is to be a servant. I love serving my family because my mom served me and continues to do so today. I love you mom. Thank you for showing me by word and deed how to live my best life.

So glad my mom, Michelle Hanna, came to visit. We went to soccer games, dinners, played card games, and she read about 100 books to Dane. Thanks for coming!

I have never had FOMO. I guess it just hasn't been in my personality. Until NOW! I have intense FOMO over travel right now... to the point of crippling anxiety. With everyone I know going either to Hawaii, Mexico, Bahamas, or even just Zion's I feel like our family is missing out on an opportunity to travel cheaply and with out crowds. I feel like if we decided today to travel it would already be to late and we missed the cheap/slow period.
Anyone else feeling this? (or are you all traveling?)
I feel bad about feeling bad becasue we dont really want to travel anyway because of the babies... and that makes me feel bad for a lot of reasons. But even IF we did decide to travel the NUMBER ONE reason for not traveling is I dont have the mental or emotional capacity (or time) to plan something right now. Anyone not busy and love planning vacations? Hit me up!

When I look at my grass and garden at the beginning of March it seems hopeless. I think "my grass/bush has died and we will need to replace it this spring, there is no way that is coming back." And then, like a miracle, it turns green and grows again. I love that Easter is in the spring. What once was dead is now alive. If 2020 (and 2021) has been hard on you, your family, or your children, I invite you to take the next week or so and prepare for Easter in a new way. Ever wonder what a day is like with 6 kids?
Every few years I do a "day in the life" post on our family blog. And I just posted one today. I warn you, it is pretty long, but it pretty accurate.
If you are going to read it some quick facts: My kids are 13, 12, 10, 9, 2 and 8 months. Jason is working from home (thanks Covid) and I am a stay at home mom. The girls are in school full time and the boys are hybrid (at the time I wrote the post - but they just went back to full time on Monday). We are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I think that is all the back ground info you need. Enjoy!

Over spring break we watched home movies - from birth of Brock to present. It was a lot of fun. But I learned some things about what makes a good home movie and wish I could go back and redo the last 14 years. So for any of you starting out, here are my thoughts.
Babies are cute, but you don't ever need to film them for more than 1 minute 30 seconds. 2 minutes is even too long. It is hard becasue in the moment you think its adorable - but honestly until they are walking just 1 minute a time is enough- even jabbering.
We film things like Christmas, singing "happy birthday", or opening presents, or looking for Easter eggs, really no one wants to watch that and it rarely tells you something about your family or personalities. I mean... sometimes you will get something great... but for a few years our ONLY videos were Christmas, birthdays, and Easter. It was so boring.
The BEST ones are just having the camera on the children playing when they don't know the camera is on. Or even on the whole family - I have 1 or 2 at family dinner or a family game and they are a treasure, I wish I had done that more when they were little.
Only 2 minutes of sports footage. tops! Even the one playing won't watch more than that.
Thoughts? What do you like filming... or better said.... WATCHING?

    Totally agree. My dad just gave us digital copies of all our home movies and I can’t tell you how often I hit fast forward to get through a tour of whatever cabin we were in, endless shots of elk in RMNP (we lived in Arkansas then, so a novelty I guess…

    My favorites are often the kids taking videos of themselves. Have you heard of 1 second a day? I’m trying it out, and am getting more like 3-4 seconds a week, but you just might like it. It’s an app.

Happy pi day. As mentioned earlier we have done dark chocolate pepermint pudding pie, lemon, cheesecake, today is rhubarb and pumpkin (although pumpkin is for breakfast tomorrow - on orders of Jason).

We are supposed to get about 25 inches of snow this weekend and I am so excited! I have been sort of missing covid - lockdown, I love when we were all just stuck at home together. So I'm kind of pretending that our spring break next week, along with a snowstorm, is a covid lockdown - which means you can just bake any whatever you want, right? It is also Pi Day on Sunday! It is our family's favorite holiday, so in honor of my fake lockdown we are going to make a pie a day! We have chosen lemon, apple, rhubarb, chocolate, pumpkin, and cheesecake, which I know is not technically a pie, but it's round, so we're pretending. We're also going to watch home movies. Bring on the Storm!

Today was perfect. It checked so many boxes!

Brock and Madison became buddies and skied most of the time together because they have the same style - fast and furious. Noah and I cared more about form and style - he got good quick! This will go in my top 10 favortie days!
*to answer some questions. Megan didnt want to go and stayed home from school with Jason and the babies.
We went to Echo Mountain and it was perfect. Cheapest, closest, smallest, and we basically had the mountain to ourselves. I grew up skiing but I havent skiied since I was 17 (almost 20 years) except once in 2008. Brock and Noah went once with the Deacons in our church last year and this was Madisons first time. We didnt do lessons but watched a bunch of youtube videos. By the second run everyone was confident and having fun.

    Yay! Have a much fun! I took it back up after 20 years and osteoarthritis in my knee. I didn't know how it would go, but it didn't take long for it to all come back, doesn't bother my knee, and I love it more than I ever did growing up.

**Lesson: Don't always turn to google/search engines when seeking for answers.
Story: This morning during my scripture study I had a burning question. I needed an answer, I needed to know it was from God. I was seeking His mind and will for my life. A phrase came to my mind. I knew the phrase. It was from Isaiah, but I didn't know where exactly, but I immediately felt a desire to read the whole chapter. Eve was already awake in her crib, so time was limited. I thought, "I can google the phrase and in 2 seconds I can find the chapter." But for some reason I went to the bible instead. I felt the need to flip through it and find it myself, even as I reached I thought, "this could take me forever to find". And... as the story so often goes... I literally opened right to it. Isaiah 54. Now I know this phrase came from God. This is my answer. I had 2 witnesses, the phrase coming to mind and the immediateness of finding it. Had I googled it I would have read the chapter and felt that it was "nice" and "maybe an answer to prayer" but by NOT googling it I got a second witness that this is from God. And what greater witness can you have than from God?
I was putting in numbers for our 2021 budget. Dang a family of 8 costs a lot of money! I was feeling depressed and overwhelmed by the numbers - annoyed at how little we were "saving" every month. I looked at that savings number and realized that number used to be HUGE to me and now I was annoyed it was "so little". I needed perspective.
This may be sharing too much information but just for fun I picked a random year and went back and looked. I opened up our 2009 budget …

School is hard. My girls are IN school. My boys are are home doing 100% remote. This is not good for them... especially Noah. I emailed the principal last week to tell her Noah was struggling and they have bent over backwards (her, the counselors, and teachers) to help us every way they can. He is no longer doing school the way "they are supposed too" but it is what is going to be best for Noah. I think teachers and school administrators have saved the world during this pandemic. I know they love my kids.
