I know our top picture is incredibly out of date - but I love it because it captures perfectly my life at one point. So it will stay.

Facebook posts

I have some deep thoughts about what the Lord is trying to tell his church through His prophet.  I believe he has been trying to tell us for years but we have been unwilling to listen.  I believe He is now showing us what he means through the pandemic.  One way he is doing that is technology.  I mostly hate technology and think most everything would be better without it.  I hate social media especially.  But I have come to know that technology is of God and that he intends to use it, including social media, to bring about His great work.  When this was revealed to me I repented and decided to start trying to follow Him by using social media for good.  At the lowest level I try to leave positive and uplifting comments on peoples posts.  Most weeks that this the best I can do these days. But back in the fall I was good about posting positive things myself.  One thing I don't like about Facebook is that it creates a record that isn't on my blog - so I intend to copy my facebook posts over here every once in a while.  Here are some posts from last fall.

I have never been a big social media user. In fact I have been "off facebook" for the last 2 or 3 months and I have loved it. But for the last week I have felt a strong prompting to intentionally use social media to share more of my heart. Honestly, I don't have much to share and the thought of adding something to my HUGE list is overwhelming. But I feel like I need to comment on posts more, encourage people, and spread light. I guess I am posting this becasue I want people to know that my sudden use of social media is intentional and to hold myself accountable.

My sister is amazing and started a podcast! I am so proud of her for listening to the Spirit and following her prompting. She has been guided on this journey and I can't wait to see where it takes her. Her first episode is about her and husband and their marriage journey. It will make you laugh and cry. Way to go Kate!

Over the last few months I have become so aware of and so grateful for all the people who love and help my children. My children's teachers have become some of my most important allies, who I now see as vital relationships and am overwhelmed at the love and time they freely give to my children. Then tonight I felt flooded with emotions as I saw neighbors step up during this crazy year to make sure the kids had a great time trick or treating. Everyone went all out. The love and selflessness was tangible. I could tell that they all wanted nothing more than for the kids to have a great night. I love and am so grateful for all the people who touch my children's lives everyday. Thank You!

I am grateful everyday that we added these "pumpkins to our patch". They have been the greatest blessing and everyone agrees. I asked Brock on a mom and son date on Friday what the best thing in his life was and he said Eve. haha Life is a lot harder then it would have been and sometimes I think "what have I done?" But the love and joy makes it all worth it. "Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven."

Today while listening to a talk I was reminded that the word "sacrifice" means "to make sacred". In my previous post I called the decision to have more children a sacrifice. I meant it in the way we usually use that word - hard, giving something up, a loss, etc - even though I understood that it would bring blessings - it had a negative connotation. But today I realized that the true definition "to make sacred" is actually what happened. Having these babies has made our family, our life, our hearts more sacred.

Jamie is much more than a Facebook friend. She's a change your life in the best possible way kind of friend! She inspires me with her amazing mothering. She has 6 kids, and is so in touch with what each one needs individually. She has taught me so much about sacrifice, compassion, service, and love. I'm forever grateful for your influence and friendship, Jamie! ❤️

The truth is I have thoroughly enjoyed these last 2 days. I have loved checking on voting stats and election counts. It has been a nice change of pace to focus on something outside of my regular routine right now. And the drama and absurdity of it all just adds to the escapism that I am apparently craving right now. It would be great...if it weren't so sad. 😔

There are so many voices. So many things to worry about. So many choices. When I'm feeling confused, alone, or afraid, I choose to hear Him. Jesus Christ is my Savior, my Redeemer, and King. And when I stop and listen to Him, He speaks to me and I know what He would have me do. Can you hear Him?

This. (an adorable video of missionaries)  This for SO MANY reasons.

Because as a disciple of Jesus Christ I am grateful everyday to be a member of His church and learn how to follow Him.

Because these boys gave 2 years of their lives to serve Him and when it didn't go the way it was supposed to  they make WONDERFUL videos instead.

And because I believe that peace and joy can be found in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

These missionaries are His servants and they are serving Him with joy and gladness, even in hard times.  Please watch the video, it will make you smile.

I love the symbolism of having the "christmas star" on the longest and darkest night of the year and the year 2020 to boot! The night is darkest just before dawn. Jesus Christ was born and He still lives today. He is the hope of the world!

She will grow to either love today or hate it.
Merry Christmas EVE!
Our best Christmas EVE ever!
We love our Christmas EVE!
haha, I could do this all day....

AND sadly I haven't posted ANYTHING sense.  I did so good October - December and then NOTHING!  I try to think of something uplifting and inspirational and I have nothing.  I still try to leave positive comments  - but, honestly, I do that about once a week.  I just don't really have anything to say.  Maybe I should pray and ask for help.  What does He want me to post today?

Christmas

A few ways we celebrated Christmas:

We always watch several Christmas movies under the glow of the tree.  WE started the season with a family favorite: A Muppets Christmas Carol, the kids watched Home Alone, on Christmas Eve we watch The Grinch, and I introduced them to A Christmas Story.

Dane saw Santa at the mall a few times.

I was feeling pretty overwhelmed with the amount of stuff I had to do for Christmas.  The kids were all home from school doing remote school because of Covid so I decided to enlist them and have them each make 2 of the Christmas treats - for us and also for neighbor gifts.  They did a GREAT job - most of them made their item 100% by them selves just following a recipe they had never made before.  It was awesome!

We also went looking at Christmas lights several times, despite Eve crying the whole time.  I eventually just took her out of her car seat and held her on my lap when we were just on neighborhood rows.  Our neighbor does a great light show to music and so does a family in our stake (they have a "Can, Can Christmas song the girls love) and we also went to a church light show drive through thing.

Christmas Eve

Dad read us "The worst Best Christmas Pageant Ever" while we frosted cookies

I made our traditional sea food buffet for Christmas Eve.
I went fancy this year with matching plates, table cloth, and decorations - all were impressed.

Then we did my most FAVORITE thing.  We danced around our Christmas tree.  This is only the second time we have done it since we moved here - but I hope we will do it every year. Jason was a good sport about it :)

Then we went to bed and Santa came.

In the morning we all came down (except Evee - she stayed asleep) and as usual Dane was adorable seeing the tree and all the presents.

A few pictures of Christmas morning.

The kids with their presents (except Megan) she put all of the stuff away ASAP and I didn't get a picture.

All Brock wanted for Christmas was a phone... well we said no to that.  Then he wanted a switch... we said no to that... then he wanted a real sword... we said no to that.  I was feeling pretty bad for the kids, so I got him a dagger and he LOVES it! (as you can see Megan made him a cardboard sword because she felt bad for him)  Brock, Noah, and Madison also got ski passes to go skiing with mom.  Megan got a scooter - she didn't want to go skiing.

Then we had our traditional brunch (all fancy again).  We spent the day playing with toys and friends and lounging around.

Christmas was pretty great!
