Last Fiji post: Sunset and Selfies

One evening Jason and I went for a walk on the beach.  The sunset was so beautiful we decided to take a picture - then another, then another.  We aren't one to take a string of selfies - in fact I am pretty sure this was our first time - we felt like true Millennials - but we actually weren't sure how to even take good selfies - I know there are secret tricks and angles to use - so we just started playing around!  ha!  But I actually love them - even though it was a last minute thing and I am not wearing any make-up I think I want to get a canvas printed up for our bedroom.

Fiji: Not our Bure

As I mentioned earlier our friend, Nick, is a photographer and took some good pictures of their Bure.  I took these off their website - they are better than my pictures.  So while these do not show our actual Bure - it shows how nice they were.

Fiji: Village tour and good-byes - Day 8

On our last day we went on an official village tour.  This is a village on the island that several of the employees of the resort live in.  Many of their families have lived in this village for 6 or 7 generations.

After the tour (I wish I would have taken more pictures - but you feel kind of weird taking pictures of people in their houses - it seems kind of disrespectful) but, after the tour, we met in their main village gathering hall, where they sang to us, fed us, and presented us with these beautiful necklaces.  Everyone was so kind and welcoming.

They even got Jason up and dancing with them!!

And I took my basket and shopped at their market - I got lot's of compliments on my basket!!

It was SO sad to leave.  They sang us a song as our boat pulled away.

Good-bye Fiji and Qamea - I hope to see you again someday - but it might have to be in a few decades!!

Fiji - The Villages

We had an opportunity to tour several villages.   Seeing the villages came a whole range of emotions.  My first thought is directed toward the level of, what we would call, poverty.  No running water, no electricity, no floors or dry wall.  But after spending a whole week with these people you find out that it is 100% a choice - a way of life they want and love.  They call it "island living".  The island and the sea provide for them everything they need - why would they leave?  And with that - you are instantly jealous of them.  They are so happy and so content - like I mentioned before - we seriously considered selling everything and moving here.

Fiji - Cultural performances

On a couple of nights some of the local villagers came and would perform Fijian cultural dances, ceremonies, and celebrations.  I loved them!  Especially the little kids.
